Trying to find a new church home can be both difficult and frustrating, but it is essential to our Christian walk. Below are 7 steps to help ease you into your new church home.

1) Pray

Christ has a perfect place for you and your family. Ask Him to open supernatural doors that get you into the right church body. Pray that if a church body is not for you, then to move your forward to the church body that is.

2) What is your denomination?

Are you non-denominational, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, etc. If you have a certain denomination that you prefer, list it out. This may help you dwindle down the options.

3) Reach Out

Ask friends, family members and co-workers where they go to church. It is far easier to connect at a church when you already know some of its members.

KCTD also has a community database where you can search zip codes and cities for churches that fellow community members already attend. You can access it here.

4) Make a List of Needs

Do you have kids? What are their ages? Perhaps you want a smaller  church community over a large one. Maybe you like a church that has more formal church attire policies over casual. Make your checklist now, so that when you visit a church you can know what to look for.

5) Connect with Pastors and Church Leaders

Sometimes the Pastor may overlook you. It is your job to connect with them. Introduce yourself. Find out who the Leader of Missions is or the Volunteer Supervisor is. Connect with them. Ask them about their passion for their church, learn about them as people and find out how your become Servant Leaders in their church. Making a point of connection with them as early in your church-seeking process as possible makes for good connections and gives you a deeper insight into the mission of the church.

6) Attend a Church Event

It is not enough to just go to church on Sundays. You want to connect with your church body. So attend a potluck, prayer and worship session or conference. Meet people, make some friends. The best people to ask about a church are its attendees.

7) Make a decision

By the 3rd church visit you should be able to decide if you like a church. Pray with your family before making a decision and then make it.
