About Merv Chapman

What was your Tres Dias experience? 

Having been in a relationship with Jesus since I was about 13yrs old, I felt that He and I were pretty close, meaning, I could hear His voice and followed His promptings fairly well. My wife had been through Tres Dias and had been asking me to attend for a couple of years. I did not feel the need to attend Tres Dias thinking it would not have much to offer toward my relationship with Jesus, that it was just another weekend of the “Same old, same old”. Finally, I decided to attend because important people in my life kept inviting me.

While attending, I discovered a much deeper level in my relationship with Jesus. I had no idea that this level even existed. It is much like reading the same scripture over and over and finding new meaning to that scripture or finally seeing how it links to another portion of God’s word. I cannot explain the feeling I received from that discovery except to say that the feeling has not gone away. It’s like being in love with Him all over again. So Sweet!

In 2018, I had the honor of serving as the men’s Rector for the #14 weekend. The Lord had given me the theme “Risk It”. I have found that many times, as we grow in our relationship with Christ, God continues to call us to uncomfortable situations to stretch and grow us. But often, we run and avoid these situations out of fear of consequence and lack of knowing the authority that we have when we are aligned with Him. We don’t have to keep asking Him to meet us to do the miracles, we just need to have the faith that His word is good and that He will move when we speak His will.

Tres Dias is one of the few ministries that I have seen have such a quick, strong impact on people. Three days…and lives are changed. I have personally been able to witness the ripples of impact that Jesus has done through the people and structure this weekend. It is an honor that God has allowed me to be a part of this ministry serving as your new President.

Why do you serve on the Board?

After attending KCTD as a Candidate it was easy to see how God was using normal people to accomplish His will in this movement. Tres Dias is much more than a ministry, it is a movement by Him. Most of my life I have been involved in a ministry that has “man-made” written all over it. Kansas City Tres Dias is a movement that people are drawn to because it is where God is working, not where Merv Chapman or some famous “Somebody” is working. I choose to be a part of the KCTD Board of Directors because I want to make sure that this movement stays a movement by God. I want to make sure that “man-made” does not evolve and push out God.

I am excited to serve as President of this community and continue to further the mission of God – make disciples of men.

What does President do? 

A common misperception of the term Chairmen or President is that you are the leader of the ministry. In truth, God is the leader, I am just the facilitator. As a Board, we are in constant prayer for this ministry and the direction that the Lord wants us to take. When we do take votes, unless a tie needs to be broken, I don’t vote. It’s more important that God’s plan happens than the goals of one person.

I don’t just speak at Closings. If you are a new community starting and need our assistance – reach out to me. If you have questions about the essentials or structure of a weekend – ask me. Our KCTD Board does a lot of things that help grow the ministry and abide by the Essentials enacted by Tres Dias International by praying and donation of our giftings. All of our board meetings are open to anyone who has attended a Tres Dias weekend.

Our Board Meetings are monthly – held every 2nd Friday of the month at 6:30 pm and typically last 2 hours. You can find us at Vineyard Community Church.

I would love prayers from this community as I step into this role. Tres Dias is the success it is because of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Jesus plus nothing is why KCTD changes lives, not me, and I will never forget that.
