Who I Am?

My name is Tim Yenney.  I live in Leavenworth, Kansas with my wife, Bea and our daughter Sarah.  We attend the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, and are actively involved in various church ministries.  I am a retired counselor and educator, serving as a substitute teacher in Fort Leavenworth and Easton School Districts.  I have taught classes  from pre-kindergarten through high school and a Psychology course at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS.

I grew up in Piqua, and Tipp City, Ohio.  I attending Bowling  Green  State University in Ohio and received a degree in Secondary EducationYenney 1 in Social Studies.  I joined the  U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Florida, Hawaii, Korea, Kansas, and England.  Upon separating from the USAF, I went back to Ball State University to finish my degree in Counseling.  After graduation,  I worked with the economically disadvantaged in Indiana, and counseled and worked to help individuals develop the proper job skills or training to find a suitable  job.

I became a Guidance Counselor and Education Services Specialist for the Army Education Centers at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN, Giessen, Germany, Fort Riley, KS, Korea, and Fort Leavenworth, KS.  While in Indiana, I was assigned to the Air Force Reserve in Indiana, Germany,  Illinois, and Colorado.  In the Air Force,  my civilian jobs, and working for the Army, I visited many places in the U.S.,  Europe, and Asia, which expanded my understanding and appreciation of  different individuals’ customs and cultures.

I have been in our church choir since July 2000.  I’m a member of the Cody Choraliers Barbershop Chorus.  We sing at the assisted living facilities  during the Christmas season, at churches, and other events.  During our annual show in August and our Singing Valentines in February, most of the funds raised, support the music education programs in our six Leavenworth County Unified School Districts. Since 2000, we contributed a total of  $33,000 to the six Leavenworth County USDs ‘music education programs. I have been active in our church’s mission programs for Habitat for Humanity and Spring Clean-ups.  We supported various  food drives to support Backpack Buddies program,  Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, Trinity House, and Alliance Against Violence programs.  I was on our church’s Disaster Preparedness Team to help residents rebuild their home and remove debris after the EF-5 tornado struck Greensburg, KS .

My Tres Dias Experience

yenney 3My Tres Dias experience began when I was working as a Guidance Counselor at the Yongsan Army Education Center in Seoul, Korea.  While working at South Post Chapel, Bea was approached by members of the Seoul Tres Dias Community to attend the Women’s Tres Dias Weekend. Bea had already attended a Walk to Emmaus weekend, in Topeka, Kansas before we were married.  The Walk to Emmaus program is comparable to Tres Dias. Bea agreed to be on their team.  I was asked to attend the 24th Men’s English Speaking Tres Dias weekend at the Eighth Army Religious Retreat Center, on Namsan Mountain, in Seoul, Korea 25-28 May 1995.  I didn’t know what to expect from my  Tres Dias Weekend.  I didn’t have any preconceived ideas or expectations of what the weekend would be like.   We were reminded not to anticipate, just participate!  I felt it was my “Mountain Top Spiritual High”!  For the first time I felt closer to God than I had ever experienced before. The accommodations were similar to dorm type living, the food was great and we had plenty to eat.  I enjoyed the variety of activities from group discussions, worship services, the music, the surprises we experienced throughout the weekend,  and the fellowships that we developed until we left Korea.  We have continued these friendships with one another over the years.

Confidentiality is honored and respected with one another.  I feel the friendships that are developed with your “Brothers in Christ,” are at a deeper level than you might experience in your church, neighborhood, or possibly your own family.   I believe you develop a greater sense of trust and faith in your Brother in Christ, than perhaps you might experience in any other relationship. Even if you encounter a problem, whether it be financial, personal, separation from a spouse, divorce, death of a loved one, loss of a job, etc., there is always someone to talk with or to pray with.  This person will be the first person you call in a crisis situation.

After my first Tres Dias experience, I began to make significant changes in my life.  I began reading and studying my Bible on a daily basis toYenney 2 expand my understanding of God’s word and applying it in my daily life. Next I got involved in reunion groups.  I started with an early morning group, then a lunch hour group , and finally an evening group.  During this time I met other fellows that were more mature Christians in their walk than myself.  A number of them helped mentor me as I was a “New Creation in Christ” and still “nursing on milk and had not begun to have solid food.” When the next Tres Dias weekend was scheduled for the fall, I immediately wanted to serve on the team and I was asked to give the talk on reunion groups.  I became more involved in the Tres Dias community, by putting into practice the theme of my first  Tres Dias Weekend which said “I sat at the Table of Isaiah, Who said, “Here am I, Send Me !” This has been the theme for my involvement in the Tres Dias Communities from Seoul, Korea, to Okinawa, Japan,  to Colorado, Tennessee, Texas, and eventually Kansas City. From these experiences, I formed many new friendships with my new “Brothers in Christ” I have continued to be blessed and feel closer to the Lord through each of these experiences.   I continue to spread the word and plant the seeds of God’s love to those in which I have contact. I plan to continue my involvement in Tres Dias as long as I am able to do so.

Why Do I Serve on the Board

12188108_1076748169026843_4766797168778029021_oI serve on the Kansas City Tres Dias (KCTD) Board, because I made a commitment when this community was first being formed.  I took  an active part in its formation  and to continue to support it as long as I was able to do so. During the 1st Kansas City Men’s Tres Dias Weekend in March 2012, Wes Schlobohm and I reaffirmed our commitment  to dedicate ourselves to leadership roles in serving the KCTD Community.  All the Team members laid hands on Wes and I and prayed over us. Although I am only serving as an Member at Large on the board, I have taken an active role to promote the KCTD Community in bringing others to Christ and to grow in a closer relationship with the Lord. Since I was so inspired by my Tres Dias experience, I wanted to share it with as many people as possible.  I hope the KCTD Community to grow and expand to other communities in the Kansas City area and help us all to become a “New Creation in Christ.” Our Mission is “Identifying, training, and equipping Christian leaders who will spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their environments, grow in their spiritual life,  and demonstrate their love toward one another.”
