Hi Everyone,

My name is Merv Chapman. I attended Kansas City Tres Dias #5, sat at the table of Matthew. My perfect wife, Tiffany, and I worship at Journey Church in Liberty, MO. My current role is serving as President of this KCTD Community.

Our KCTD Board had a special meeting last night, 8/27, to discuss our next set of weekends in October.

Your board unanimously voted to postpone the Men’s #18 and Women’s #17 weekends. I want to share some key points discussed that lead to that decision.

A good number of people from our community served last weekend at South Dakota Tres Dias.

  1. One of the team members from a different community had COVID-19. Several people became sick after the weekend, 35 tested, at last check, 19 of them are positive. One individual is in the hospital, so please be in prayer for him!
  2. To accomplish what you have seen on a KCTD weekend, many activities require people to be very close. Social Distancing and wearing a mask make it very difficult to create close relationships and transformations we love to see on the weekend.
  3. You elected many of the Board of Trustees, others appointed, but ultimately all of us answer to God. We genuinely believe that our God can protect a Tres Dias weekend from anything Satan wants to throw at it. We know that God could have done that with the SDTD weekend, why He didn’t, we don’t know. Wearing a mask was optional, and most chose not to. The point is, that forces us to step back and re-evaluate what God wants us to do. We will be praying for those answers and applying our God-given wisdom to protect our community until we are clear on directions for our future activities.
  4. God’s word instructs us to obey our State and local authorities. Right now, they tell us to Social Distance at least 6’ and wear masks. Without the ability to have a “true” KCTD weekend, where people hug, have Wee Prayers, nail their “stuff” to the cross, enjoy chapel, and dining together, we chose to postpone our fall weekends.

I know I have shared this in the past, but it is now even more present in my mind. I do not know if Satan created COVID-19, but I am confident he uses it for his purposes. I am excited and looking forward to seeing how our God is going to use it for good!

Community of KCTD, be encouraged, not defeated! You are fully loved and fully accepted. God has not and will not leave or forsake you.

I love you and look forward to meeting again soon!

De Colores!
